Given

  • Total number of students in the school = 500
  • Ratio of boys to girls = 23:27

To find

  • How many more girls than boys are there in school ?

Solution

  • Number of boys + Number of girls = Total strength
  • 23x + 27x = 500 (x is any number)
  • 50x = 500
  • x = 500/50
  • x = 10

⇾ Value of x is 10

  • Number of boys :-
  • 23x = 23(10) = 230
  • Number of girls :-
  • 27x = 27(10) = 270

Number of boys = 230

Number of girls = 270

Girls - Boys = 270 - 230 = 40

Hence, there are 40 more girls than boys in the school.

Verification

  • 23x + 27x = 500
  • 23(10) + 27(10) = 500
  • 230 + 270 = 500
  • 500 = 500
