The position of the salmon relative to the surface is -8m.

Given:

Original depth of salmon school = -5m

Increase in depth = 3m

To find: New position of salmon relative to the surface

Solution:

We are given,

Original depth of salmon school = 5m

⇒ Position relative to surface = -5m

Increase in depth = 3m

⇒ New position relative to the surface = -5 + (-3) = -8m

∴ The position of the salmon relative to the surface = -8m
