A school organized a mathematical exhibition in the school premises. To make the decoration more attractive children made hangings related to mathematics. One of the students made 2 hangings with polynomials written on them. Based on above information answer the following questions i)What type of polynomials are p(y) and q(x)? ii) Write the degree of given polynomials p(y) and q(x). iii) What is the value of p(-2)? iv) Write the coefficients of y2and x3.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

We have

p(y) = 5y² - 11y + 8

q(x) = x³ - 125

i) Since there are three terms in the polynomial p(y), it is a trinomial.

Since there are two terms in the polynomial q(x), it is a binomial.

ii) Degree of a polynomial  is the highest power of the variable in the polynomial

In the polynomial p(y), the highest power of the variable is 2, ∴The degree of the polynomial p(y) = 2

In the polynomial q(x), the highest power of the variable is 3, ∴The degree of the polynomial q(x) = 3

iii)We have p(y) =  5y² - 11y + 8

p(-2) = 5×(-2)² - 11(-2) + 8

= 5×4 +22+ 8

=20 +22+8

=50

p(-2) = 50

iv) The coefficient of y² = 5

The coefficient of x³ = 1
