So to find which school did it better we need to find the percentage of students who passed.

In School 1

Number of students sent for class X examination ⇒ 480

Number of students who passes in the examination ⇒ 420

Percentage of Students who passed ⇒ \sf \frac{No.\ of \ students \ who \ passed }{No. \ of \ students\ who \ appeared \ for \ the\ exam   } \times 100

\frac{420}{480} \times 100

\frac{7}{8} \times 100

\frac{700}{8}

87.5\%

∴ 87.5% students passed in school 1.

In School 2

Number of students sent for class X examination ⇒ 550

Number of students who passes in the examination ⇒ 495

Percentage of Students who passed ⇒ \sf \frac{No.\ of \ students \ who \ passed }{No. \ of \ students\ who \ appeared \ for \ the\ exam   } \times 100

\frac{495}{550} \times 100

\frac{9}{10} \times 100

\frac{900}{10}

90\%

∴ 90% students passed in school 2.

∴ School 2 gave better results than School 1.

Question

A school sent 480 students for class X examination and out of them 420 passed. Another school sent 550 students and out of them 495 students passed ? Which school gave better results.

Solution

One school sent 480 students out of which 420 passed.

Percentage of students passed

( \frac{420}{480} \times 100)\% \\  = 87.5\%

Another school sent 550 students out of which 495 passed.

Percentage of students passed

( \frac{495}{550} \times 100)\%  \\   = 90 \%

Ans:- The students passed from first school secured 87.5% marks.

The students passed from second school secured 90% marks.

From here, we can say that the second school gave better result than first school.
