Answer:

first we will calculate the number of minutes from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm and that is 330 minutes than we will subtract the two breaks of 30 and 15 minutes from 330 minutes means subtract 45 from 330 and we get 285 minuter and than divide 285/330 and we will get 19/22 so the answer is 19:22

Ratio of the break time to the total time the students in the school is 9 : 66

Solution:

Given that,

A school start at 8 a.m and get over at 1.30 p.m

Find the total time the students in the school

Total time = 8 am to 1 : 30 pm

Total time = 5 hours 30 minutes

We know that,

1 hour = 60 minutes

5 hours = 5 x 60 = 300 minutes

Therefore,

Total time = 300 minutes + 30 minutes = 330 minutes

Find the ratio of the break time

During the school time if there are two breaks of 15 minutes and 30  minutes respectively

Total break time = 15 minutes + 30 minutes = 45 minutes

Find the ratio of the break time to the total time the students in the school

Ratio = 45 : 330

Reduce to lowest term

Ratio = 9 : 66

Thus ratio of the break time to the total time the students in the school is 9 : 66
