A scientific theory is an explanation for set of events happening majority of times in a given situation; certainly it can be changed based on the observations and consistency of events. A theory is either not completely validated by experimentation or experimental evidence is scarce and varied depending on the resources and manpower required to validate or discard the theory.

A theory which gives all reasons. This theory can stand own by its own reason. you may have seen that physicist or scientists have to give proof for his theory before his invention . Those theory comes in books for the feature's invention.

I can give you some e.g of theory

1) string theory

2) the special theory of relativity

these scientific theories are proposed by 1) Stephen hawking and 2) Albert Einstein.
