Very good question. Thanks for asking it !!!

According to Law of conservation of mass ," total mass of reactants should be equal to total mass of products"

According to question , Scientist measures mass of two liquids before the reaction and after the reaction.

Mass of products is less than mass of reactants.

So the missing mass would be probably a gas that has evolved in the gas which has escaped.

The liquids that can mix with each other are called miscible liquids.

Those liquids which do not mix are called miscible liquids.

When two liquids are mix they do not have the same molecular weight.

Thats why the liquid with less molecular weight float and the liquid with mkre molecular weight becomes dense.

Due to difference in weight the liquid formed is slightly lighter.
