Question :-

A scooter acquires a speed of 36 km/h in 10 sec after the start. Calculate the acceleration of the scooter.

Knowledge required :-

⇨Acceleration is known as the rate of change of velocity.

i.e ,

a = ( v - u ) / t

( where a is the acceleration , u is the initial velocity , v is the final velocity , and t is the time taken )

Answer :-

According to the question,

⇛ u = 0  m/s

⇛ v = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

⇛t = 10 sec

so,

acceleration , a = ( v - u ) / t

                       a = ( 10 - 0 ) / 10

                       a = 1  m/s²

Hence,

the acceleration of the scooter will be 1 m/s² .

Question

A scooter acquires a speed of 36km/h in 10sec after the start.calculate the acceleration of the scooter.

Solutions step by step :-

given here

Part one ( case 1 )

Initial velocity, u = 0m/s

Final velocity, v = 36 km/hr = 10 m/s

Time, t = 10 s

Acceleration, a = (v - u) / t

∴a = (10 - 0) / 10

     = 10/10

∴a = 1 m/s²

Thus, acceleration of the scooter is 1 m/s².

part 2 (CASE 2)

Initial velocity, u = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

Final velocity, v = 0 m/s

Time, t = 20 s

Acceleration, a = (v - u) / t

∴a = (0 - 10) / 20

     = -10/20

∴a = - 0.5 m/s²

Thus, acceleration of the scooter is -0.5 m/s². The negative sign indicates retardation.
