A scooter weighing 150kg together with its rider moving at 36 km/hr is to take a turn of radius 30 m. What force on the scooter towards the center is needed to make the turn possible? Who or what provides this? (Ans: 500N)

Mass of the scooter(m) = 150 kg.

Radius(r) = 30 m.

Velocity of the Scooter(v) = 36 km/hr.

= 36 × 5/18 = 10 m/s.

Using the Formula,

Force = mv²/r

⇒ Force = 150 × 10²/30

∴ F = 500 N.

Hence, the Centripetal Force of magnitude 500 N is acting on the scooter.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the question!

It is definitely a very interesting question to solve and do some brainstorming.

Given, Mass of the scooter (m) with radius ( r 30cm) = 150 kg.

Velocity of the Scooter (v) = 36 km/hr = 36 × 5/18 = 10 m/s.

We know, Force = mv²/r

= 150 × 10²/30

= 500 N

Centripetal force of 500 N is exerted to make the turn possible.
