Given : A second is taken to cover 3.6 m of distance by a free falling body. It also covers 7.2 m more during each successive second than the preceding one.

To Find : the distance in 14th seconds

 97.2 m

95.2 m

99.2 m

98.2 m

Solution:

Distance in  1st second  = 3.6 m

Distance in 2nd second = 3.6 + 7.2 m

Distance in 3rd second = 3.6 + 7.2 + 7.2 =  3.6 + 2 * 7.2  m

This is an AP

Where   a= 3.6  , d = 7.2

Distance in 14 secs

aₙ = a + ( n - 1) d

=> a₁₄ =  3.6  + ( 14 - 1) * 7.2

=>  a₁₄ =  3.6  + (13) * 7.2

=>  a₁₄ =  97.2 m

the distance in 14th seconds  =  97.2 m
