A security mirror used in a big showroom has a radius of curvature 5m. If a customer is standing at a distance of 20m from the cash counter, find the position, nature, and size of the image formed in the security mirror.

It is a security mirror so we need erect image and for erect image at all distance is obtained by a convex mirror.

So,

R = 5m

f = 5/2m

u = -20m

V = ?

Using mirror formula,

1/v + 1/u = 1/f

1/v = 1/f - 1/u

1/v = 2/5 + 1/20

= 8+1/20

V = 20/9 m.

m = -v/u = hi/ho

m = -20/9×-20

m = 1/9.

So,

Image is formed 20/9m behind the mirror

Image is virtual and erect

Image is 1/9 times smaller than the object.
