A series RLC circuit containing a resistance of 12Ω, an inductance of 0.15H and a capacitor of 100uF are connected in series across a 100V, 50Hz supply. Calculate the total circuit impedance, the circuit current and power factor.

XL=2×3.142×50×0.15=47.13 ohm

XC=1/ 2×3.142×50×10^-4=63.65 ohm

R=12 ohm

Z^2=R^2 +(XL-XC)^2

Z^2=144+(47.13-63.65)^2

Z=20.42 ohm

I=V/Z=100/20.42=4.8 A

power factor =R/Z=12/20.42=0.6
