A fish is 10.0cm from the front surface of a spherical fish bowl of radius 20.0cm, as shown in the figure. The walls of the bowl are thin, and their effects can be neglected. As observed from the point P (see figure), the fish is at a distance of

(A) 6.7cm from the surface and appears magnified in size.

(B) 8.6cm from the surface and appears magnified in size.

(C) 10.3cm from the surface and appears diminished in size.

(D) 11.4cm from the surface and appears diminished in size.

Answer:

(B) 8.6cm from the surface and appears magnified in size.

Explanation:

μ₁ = μ  water  = 4 / 3

μ₂ = μ air = 1

μ₂ / v - μ₁ / u = μ₂ - μ₁ / R

1 / v - 4 / 3 (-10) = ( 1 - 4/3 ) / -20

1 / v = 1 / 60 - 4 / 30

v = 60 * 30 / 30 - 240

v = 60 * 30 / (-210)

v = -8.6cm

HOPE IT WILL HELP YOU ....
