A pencil is made of graphite. The graphite is an allotrope of carbon. Although carbon is a non-metal and hence it is non lustrous but graphite is an exception so it is lustrous.
Explanation:
- On sharpening the pencil the bare surface of the graphite is obtained and it shines. But eraser is made up of rubber. It is a non-metal and hence it does not shine.
- This is because rubber is made from organic compounds which does not shine on coming in contact with light.
