A sharp pointed pin pierces easily through the pile of the paper. This is because the pin is sharp and has a lesser surface area in contact with the pile of papers.Since pressure is inversely proportional to surface area, if surface area is less the pressure is concentrated on lesser area, hence more pressure is exerted on that area.So the sharp pointed pin, having less surface area, its tip exerts more pressure and it thus pierces easily through the pile of papers.

A sharp pointed pin pierces easily through the pile of paper because the pin is sharp and surface area of pin lines as compared to the pile of paper.
