Question

A shell is fired from a canon with a velocity of 200m/s at an angle of 30°above the horizontal. Find its maximum height, time to flight by the shell.

Answer

500 m

20 sec

Explanation

Given :-

Velocity (u) = 200 m/s

Angle (θ) = 30°

To find :-

Maximum height (hₘₐₓ)

Time of flight (t)

Solution :-

hₘₐₓ = u² sinθ/2g

hₘₐₓ = 200 × 200 sin²30/2 × 10

hₘₐₓ = 20000/4

hₘₐₓ = 400

Maximum height is 500 m.

time of flight = 2u sinθ/g

time of flight = 2 × 200 sin 30°/10

time of flight = 40 × 1/2

time of flight = 20

Time of flight is 20 sec.
