A shell of mass 40kg is flying at the speed of 48m/s.When it explodes it's one part of mass 18kg stops.Find the velocity of remaining part​

Explanation:

use law of conservation of momentum (initial momentum= final momentum in a isolated system )

mv = m1v1 + m2v2

so the momentum of shell = 40 x 48

so momentum of shell =1920

now it is given in the question that the the part with 18 kg of mass gets stopped after explosion

so the mass of other part = 40 -18

=22kg

so 22 x V + 18x0 =1920

22V =1920

therefore V = 965/11 or 87.2727....
