When a shiny brown coin which is made of Copper (cu) is heated, it turns black compound which is known as copper oxide (CuO).

This happens because copper gets oxidized with the contaminated by oxygen (O2) which is present in the air.

But it can be possible if the copper is heated in the presence of air which constitutes oxygen.

▶The element of the coin is copper(Cu).

▶On heating copper, it gets oxidized by oxygen present in air which results in the formation of Copperdioxide(CuO) which is black in colour.
