A shiny brown coloured element ‘X’ on heating in air becomes black in colour. The shiny brown coloured substance reappears upon passing hydrogen over this black coloured compound. Name the element ‘X’ and the black coloured compound formed. Write a chemical reaction for both the reactions mentioned above.

Hii friend,

The shiny brown coloured element which belongs to atomic number 29 is "Copper".

Copper on reacts with air forms " cupric oxide" (cuo)

2Cu +O2 -> 2CuO (black)

Cu o on treating with hydrogen forms the element copper and water.

CuO + H2 -> Cu +H2O.

Hope this helps you a little!!!!
