The shiny fibre obtained from an insect is known as silk.

Silk fibre is secreted by the glands which are often located near the mouth of insects during the preparation of cocoons. Silk is an animal fibre produced by silkworms. A single silk filament is the result of a series of steps starting from the cultivation of mulberry trees to the domestication of silkworms. The silk filament is a continuous thread and is very strong. But single filaments are too thin so several filaments are combined and made into a strand for utilization.
