A shiny reddish brown coloured element ‘X’ on heating in air becomes compound ‘Y” which is black in color. When hydrogen gas is passed over the black coloured compound ‘ Y’ it again turns to reddish brown.
(i) Identify the element ‘X’ and the black coloured compound ‘Y’.
(ii) Identify and define the type of reaction taking place in both the cases
mentioned above.
(iii) Write balanced chemical equations.

equation for this is :   copper + oxygen  = copper oxide

    Cu+O²= CuO
