A ship A is moving westwards with a speed of 10kmph and a ship B 100 km south of a A is moving northward with aspeed of 10kmph.Find the time when the distance between them is shortest.

It is clear from the diagram that the shortest distance between the ship Aand B is PQ.

Here, Sin450=OQPQ

⟹PQ=100×21=502m

Also,

VAB=VA2+VB2=102+102=102km/h

So, the time taken to reach shortest path is
