A ship is steaming due east at 12m/s. A woman runs across the deck at 5m/s in a direction at right angles to the direction of motion of the ship towards north. Calculate the velocity of the woman relative to sea.

velocity of ship wrt sea= 12i∧
velocity of women on deck= 5j∧
velocity of women relative to sea will be resultant of above two velocoties,
12i∧ + 5j∧
 magnitude is
square root (12 x12 + 5x5)
=√144+25
=√169
=13m/s
