given a ship travels 20 km due north and 35 km due east.
35

20 |. /

in ∆ 35 km is the base and 20 km is its height.
where 20 and 35 meets that angle is 90degree
so side opposite to 90 degree angle is hypotenuse
hypotenuse²=side²+ side²
one side = 35 km
another side = 20 km
distance = hypotenuse
hypotenuse²= 20²+ 35²
= 400 + 1225
hypotenuse²= 1625
hypotenuse= √1625
therefore the distance =40.31( approx)
therefore the distance from start point is 40 KMS.
