Given:-

  • Time taken to reach echo = 0.3sec
  • Speed of sound in water = 1500m/s

Find:-

  • Depth of the sea

Solution:-

Let's denote distance with (d) here, distance will be doubled because the sound travel from ship to the sea bed and then back to the sea. So, total distance = 2d

we, know that

 \huge{\underline{\boxed{\sf Distance = Speed \times Time}}}

where,

  • Distance, d = 2d
  • Speed, s = 1500m/s
  • Time, t = 0.3sec

So,

 \mapsto\sf d = s \times t \\ \\

 \mapsto\sf 2d = 1500 \times 0.3 \\ \\

 \mapsto\sf 2d = 1500 \times \dfrac{3}{10}\\ \\

 \mapsto\sf 2d = 150\times 3\\ \\

 \mapsto\sf 2d = 450\\ \\

 \mapsto\sf d = \dfrac{450}{2}\\ \\

 \mapsto\sf d = 225m\\ \\

 \small{ \therefore \underline{\sf d = 225m}}\\ \\

Hence, Depth of the sea will be 25m
