we know that:

speed=distance/time

then,

(2250/3)m/s

75m/s

Given :-

Depth of the sound transmitted to the sea by the ship = 2250 m

Time taken by the ship to receive the echo = 3 sec

To Find :-

The speed of sound in water.

Analysis :-

Here we are given with the distance and the time taken by the ship.

In order to find the speed, substitute the given values accordingly, such that speed is equal to twice the distance (Since it's echoed) divided by the time taken.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • s = Speed
  • d = Distance
  • t = Time

Using the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Speed= \dfrac{Distance \ travelled}{Time \ taken} }}

Given that,

Distance (d) = 2 × 2250

Time (t) = 3 sec

Substituting their values,

⇒ s = 2(2250)/3

⇒ s = 4500/3

⇒ s = 1500 m/s

Therefore, the speed of sound in water is 1500 m/s.
