GIVEN, DISTANCE(s)=2800
                    TIME(t)=4 SECS
NOW, SPEED(v)=DISTANCE(s)/TIME(t)
THEREFORE SPEED OF SOUND IN WATER=2800/4=700m/s

The speed of sound in water is 1400 m/s.

Explanation:

It is mentioned that, a ship which is stationary is at a a distance of 2800 m from the sea bed. The ship sends an ultrasound signal to the sea-bed and its echo is heard after 4 s. It is required to find the speed pf sound in water.

When the echo is heard, the sound wave will cover a distance of 2d, such that the speed is given by :

v=\dfrac{2d}{t}\\\\v=\dfrac{2\times 2800\ m}{4\ s}\\\\v=1400\ m/s

So, the speed of sound in water is 1400 m/s.
