Given : A shop keeper bought a certain number of copies of the same book from a wholesale dealer. If he buys 4 more books, then the price of each book is reduced to 1 rupee. If he buys 5 books less then the price of each book will increase by 2 rupees.

To  Find  :  the number of books he buys initially and the cost of each book.

Solution:

Books Bought  = B

Price per book  = P

Total Cost  = B * P       =  BP

buys 4 more books, then the price of each book is reduced to 1 rupee.

=> ( B + 4) (P - 1)  = BP

=> BP + 4P - B  - 4 = BP

=> 4P - B = 4

buys 5 books less then the price of each book will increase by 2 rupees

=> ( B - 5) ( P + 2)  = BP

=> BP  - 5P + 2B - 10 = BO

=>    -5P + 2B  = 10

 4P - B =    4

-5P + 2B  = 10

on solving :

P = 6   and  B = 20

Books Bought = 20

Cost per book  =  6
