At Rs 32.40 per dozen must the shopkeeper sell the remaining eggs to gain 20% on his investment.

Given Cost Price of 1 dozen egg = Rs 25

So, CP of 45 dozen eggs (45×12 = 540 eggs) = Rs (25×45) = Rs 1125

1 dozen means 12.

40 eggs discarded

Eggs remaining = 540 - 40 = 500

To gain 20% profit on 500 eggs,

SP = (100+Profit)% of CP

= 120% of Rs 1125

= Rs 1350

So, he must sell the remaining 500 eggs at Rs 1350 to get 20% profit on whole.

500 eggs mean 500/12 dozen

Price per dozen = Rs (1350 / [500/12]) = Rs 32.40

This is the required price.
