There were 10 pens
Shopkeeper sold each pen for ₹5

Total money he received after selling those 10 pens = 5 * 10
= ₹ 50

The total profit = Selling price - Cost price
= 50 - 40
= ₹ 10

Profit % = profit * 100 / Cost price
= 10 * 100 / 40
= 1000 / 40
= 25 %
