let Q: A shopkeeper brought 16 shirts at the rate of ₹175 per shirt . he sold 5 of them for ₹160 .at what price should he sell the remaining shirts to make a profit of ₹ 90.

solution:
-----------

number of shirts = 16

cost price of 1 shirt = ₹175

Find the c.p of 16 shirts:
--------------------------------

cost price of 16 shirts=16 ×175 = ₹2800

selling price of 5 shirts = ₹160 ( given )

remaining shirts = 16 - 5 = 11 shirts

cost price of remaining shirts:
----------------------------------
= 11 × 175 = ₹1925

required selling price to make profit of ₹90 on the whole:

=cost price + profit

= ₹2800 + 90 = ₹2890

remaining selling price to make profit of ₹90 on the whole .

= required selling price - s.p of 5 shirts

= ₹2890 - ₹160 = ₹2730

Find the profit :
---------------------

profit = remaining selling price - cost price of remaining shirts

profit = ₹2730 - ₹1925 = ₹805

Find the profit% :
------------------------

profit % = (profit × 100)/c.p of remaining shirts

profit% = ( 805 × 100 )/ 1925 = 41.8 %

therefore , he should sell the remaining shirts at the rate of 41.8 % to make profit of ₹90 on the whole .

Answer : 41.8%
