300 articles at $1500. Price of each is 1500/300=$5. He sellss 260 at 20% above. 20% of $5 is $1. He sold each at $6. Total for 260 articles =260*6=1560. Remaining 40 articles at 50% of $6 =$3/article. For 40 articles =40*3=$120. Total amount for 300 articles =1560+120=1680. Profit 1680-1500=180. %profit =(180/1500)*100=12% is final answer

% profit =  12%

Given:

A shopkeeper buys 300 identical articles at a total cost of $1500 he sells 260 articles at a price that is 20 % above the cost price.

Remaining article is sold at a price that is 50 % of the selling price of each of the 260 articles.

To find:

Shopkeepers profit as a percentage of his cost price.

Explanation:

Price of 1 article = \frac{1500}{300} = $5

260 articles at a price that is 20 % above the cost price.

That is selling price of one article = $5 + \frac{20}{100}×5 = $6

Selling price of 260 article = $6 × 260 = $1560

Remaining article is sold at a price that is 50 % of the selling price of each of the 260 articles.

Remaining article Selling price = \frac{50}{100} × 6 = $3

Remaining articles = 300 -260 = 40

Selling price of Remaining 40 articles = 40 × 3 = $120

Total selling price of  300 identical article = $1560 + $120 = $1680

Profit = Selling price - cost price = 1680 -1500 = $180

% profit = \frac{180}{1500} × 100 =  12%
