Cost of shirt: Rs 480

Market price: Rs 600

Discount given: 12.5% × Rs 600 = Rs 75

Discounted price: Rs 600 - Rs 75 = Rs 525

Profit percentage:

(Rs 525 - Rs 480)/Rs 480 × 100%

= Rs 45/Rs 480 × 100%

= 9.375%

MelissaTan: :)
TooFree: A small error there ... Rs 45/Rs 480 × 100% = 9.375% , not 0.09375%
MelissaTan: My answer is correct. When you calculate percentage, you always have to put 100% as 100/100.
TooFree: You multiply by 100% to get percentage. If you multiply by 100/100, you are multiplying by 1 only.
MelissaTan: Exactly, 100% = 100/100. Example, 50% = 50/100.
TooFree: 1/2 = 50% , because 1/2 x 100% = 50%
prashant8224: yaa
TooFree: 50% = 50/100 => you are changing from percentage to fraction.
MelissaTan: My mistake. Sorry!
MelissaTan: Thanks for the pointing out my error!
