Step-by-step explanation:

If you notice the question, (assume the man purchases 100 oranges of each variety):

He can buy 25 oranges of variety 1 for 1 rupee. Therefore for 100 oranges he pays (100/25)*1 =4 rupees

He can buy 20 oranges of variety 2 for 1 rupee. Therefore for 100 oranges he pays (100/20)*1 =5 rupees

Now he has 100+100 =200 oranges which cost him 4+5=9 rupees which is his Cost Price CP.

Now he mixes them and sell them as 45 oranges for 2 rupees until he sells 200 oranges.

So he gains money = (200/45)*2=8.88 rupees which is his selling price SP, which is less than his CP.

Therefore he experiences a loss of CP-SP =9–8.88=.1111 rupees

loss %=(.1111/9)*100 = 1.23% Loss approx:)
