A shopkeeper gains rs 1 on each sharpner and loose 40 paisa on each eraser . he sells 90 sharpners and some erasers losing rs 10 in all how many erasers does he sell ?

Answer:

Gain on 1 sharpener = 1Rs

Loss on 1 eraser = 40p = 0.4Rs = 4/10Rs

So gain on 90 sharpeners = 1*90 = 90Rs

Let the total number of erasers be x.

So loss on x number of erasers = 4/10*x = 4x/10

And 90 - 4x/10 = -10

= -4x/10 = -10 - 90

= -4x = -100*10

= x = -1000/-4

= 250

So the Shokeeper has to sell 250 erasers for having an overall loss of 10Rs.p
