Answer:

No. of pen sells=45

therefore profit = 45×1=45rs.

loss on x pencil = x ×.40=0.40x rs.

a/q. = 0.40x-45rs=5

0.40x = 50rs

x=50/0.40

=125

 \sf \: The \:  amount \:  of  \: profit \:  earned  \: in  \:  \\ \sf selling  \: 1  \: pen \:  is  \: Re \:  1

 \mapsto  \sf The \:  amount \:  of  \: profit \:  earned \:  in  \: \\   \sf selling \:  45 \: pen  \: is \:  Re. \:  1  \: x  \: 45 = \:   \: 45

Hence, the profit earned is Rs. 45

The net loss he suffered in selling pencil is Rs. 5.

  • \sf The  \: loss \:  in \:  transaction \:  is \: loss: =-Rs.5 \:  - Rs. \:  45 \: =-Rs.50 \: =-5000 \:  paise

Loss incurred in selling 1 pencil =- 40 paise

The number of pencil sold by the shopkeeper is 5000/40 = 125 pencils

  • Hence, the number of pencil sold by the shopkeeper is 125 pencils.
