ANSWER

We take the cost of 1kg of sugar = Rs. x

So the price =100x.

The shopkeeper sold 20 kg of sugar at 20% profit.

Then the profit on 100 kg of sugar at 12%= 100x×

100

12

=12x .......(i)

Let the sugar be divided into p kg and (100−p) kg.

So the price of p kg =px.

Then the profit on p kg at 10%= px×

100

10

=

10

px

..........(ii).

Again the price of 100−pkg=(100−p)x.

Then the profit on (100−p) kg at 20%= (100−p)x×

100

20

=

10

(200−2p)x

..........(iii).

Then, adding (ii) & (iii), the total profit =

10

px

+

10

(200−2p)

=

10

x(200−p)

10

x(200−p)

=12x ....(comparing with (i))

⇒200−p=120

⇒100−p=(100−80) kg =20 kg

So, the shopkeeper sold 20 kg of rice at 20% profit.

The profit that 25 kg of rice sold is 16%.

Given:

A shopkeeper has 100 kg of rice. He sells 25kg at some profit and sells the remaining part at 8% profit.

To find:

If he earns 10% profit on the whole transaction then find at what % profit he sold 25 kg rice

Solution:

Formula used:

Selling price = (100+%Profit)/100 × Cost price

Let 'C' be the cost price of the rice

The cost price of 25 kg rice = 25/100 × C = 0.25C

The cost price of 75 kg rice = 75/100 × C = 0.75C

Let 25 kg of rice being sold at x% profit

The selling price of 25 kg = (100+x)/100 × 0.25C

= (0.25 + 0.0025x)C

Remaining 75 kg sold at 8% profit

The selling price of 75 kg rice = (100+8)/100 × 0.75C

= 1.08 × 0.75C = 0.81C

Total selling price = (0.25 + 0.0025x)C + 0.81C

= (0.25 + 0.0025x + 0.81)C

= (1.06 + 0.0025x) C

It is given that, in the end, the total profit is 10%

Then selling price of 100 kg can be calculated as

The selling price of 100 kg = [ C + (10 × C) / 100)

= C + 0.1C = 1.1C

It is calculated that the Total selling price = (0.81 + 0.0025x)C

=> 1.1C = (1.06 + 0.0025x) C

=> 1.1 = (1.06 + 0.0025x)

=> 0.04 = 0.0025x

=>  x = 0.0025/0.04

=> x = 16%

Therefore,

The profit that 25 kg of rice sold is 16%.
