Let the initial amount be 100

In first month 10% loss amount becomes 90

In second month he secured 30%of gain
It means

=> (90 × 30)/100

=> 27

=> 90 + 27 = 107

In third month again 20% loss

=> (20 × 107)/100

=> 21.4

=> 107 - 21.4 = 85.6

Total loss from all over month

=> 100 - 85.6 = 14.4

=> (14.4 × 100)/100

=> 14.4%

Loss becomes 14.4%
