Answer:

5%

Step-by-step explanation:

let the cost be x

Marked price = x + 40% of x = 140x/100 = Rs. 7x/5

Discounted price (or selling price)

= 7x/5 - 25% of 7x/5

= 7x/5 - 7x/20

= Rs. 21x/20

Gain = SP - CP = 21x/20 - x = Rs. x/20

Gain % = (Gain/CP) *100

= (x/20x)*100

= 5%

Let CP of Goods=₹x
Then MP is=40% above CP
MP = x + (x \times 40\%) \\ = x + (x \times \frac{40}{100} ) \\ = x + \frac{2x}{5} \\ = \frac{5x + 2x}{5} \\ = \frac{7x}{5} \: rupees
MP=₹7x/5

Now on MP allows 25% discount

sp = \frac{7x}{5} - ( \frac{7x}{5} \times 25\%) \\ = \frac{7x}{5} - ( \frac{7x}{5} \times \frac{25}{100}) \\ = \frac{7x}{5} - \frac{7x}{20} \\ = \frac{7x \times 4 - 7x}{20} \\ = \frac{28x - 7x}{20} \\ = \frac{21x}{20} \: rupees
SP=₹ 21x/20

Gain=21x/20-x
=₹ x/20

gain\% = \frac{gain}{cp} \times 100 \\ = \frac{x}{20} \times \frac{1}{x} \times 100 \\ = 5\%

Gain=5%
