after allowing 10% discount

(160/10)=16

so sp is 160-16=144

he still gains 20%

so

now let cp be x

then

x+20%of x=144

x+20x/100=144

x+x/5=144

solving it

6x/5=144

x=(144*5)/6

x=120

The cost price of the article is 120 rupees.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

The marked price is 160 rupees.

Shopkeeper allow a discount of 10% that means now you need to pay only 90% of marked price.

Selling price = 160 × 90%

Selling price = 160 \times\frac{90}{100}=144

The profit is 20% after selling the article on 144 rupees.

Let the cost price is x.

x + 20% of x = 144

x+x \times\frac{20}{100}=144

x+0.2x=144

1.2x=144

x=120

Hence, the cost price of the article is 120 rupees.
