Given ,market price of water purifier

= Rs 720

since,the discount is offered on market price then find the discount :

discount offered = 20% of market price

= 20 % of 720

= 0.2 × 720 = Rs 144

find the selling price of water purifier :

selling price(S.P) = market price - discount

S.P = 720 - 144 = Rs 576

Given that after giving discount of 20% on M.P

he still makes a profit of 20% .

since , he makes profit on cost price .

then find the Cost price (C.P ) :

let the cost price be 'x '

x + 20 % of x = selling price

x + 0.2 x = 576

1.2x = 576

x = Rs 480

therefore ,

the cost price of the water purifier was Rs 480

Your Answer : Cost Price = Rs 480

Marked Price = Rs 720

Find the selling price:

Discount = 20% of Rs 720

Discount = 0.2 x 720 = Rs 144

Selling Price = 720 - 144 = Rs 576

Find the cost price:

Profit = 20%

Selling Price = 100 + 20 = 120%

120% = Rs 576

1% = 576 ÷ 120 = Rs 4.80

100% = 4.8 x 100 = Rs 480

Answer: The cost price is Rs 480
