Given info : A shopkeeper offers to sell 33 1/3% more quantity of a product for a price that is 20% higher.

To find : What is the effective discount that he is offering ?

solution : A shopkeeper offers to sell 33 1/3 % more quality = 1/3 (in fraction )

means, if initial quantity is 3 then final must be 4.

now a product for a price that is 20 % higher = 20/100 = 1/5 (in fraction)

means, if initial price is 5 then final price must be 6.

initial price = 5 , initial quantity = 3

so initial rate = 5/3

final price = 6 , final quantity = 4

final rate = 6/4

now effective discount = (final rate - initial rate)/initial rate × 100

= (6/4 - 5/3)/5/3 × 100

= (18 - 20)/(12 × 5/3) × 100

= -2/20 × 100

= -10 % [ negative sign indicates discount ]

therefore he should offer 10% discount

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A shopkeeper offers to sell 33 1/3% more quantity of a product for a price that is 20% higher

To find:-

what is the effective discount that he is offering?

Solution:-

Let Initially the shopkeeper sells 100% at Rs 100.

Now he sells 133 1/3% at Rs 120 (ATQ).

So the discount offered is 133 1/3 - 120

=13 1/3

= 40/3.

Discount offered on the value = 133 1/3

= 400/3.

Therefore %discount = 40/3 * 3/400 * 100

= 10%.

Answer:-

A shopkeeper effective discount that he is offering is 10 %
