Given:

A shopkeeper purchased 40 kg of rice at ₹90 per kg and mixed with 40 kg of rice costing ₹150 per kg

To find:

At what rate per kg must he sell this mixture to make a profit of 20%

Solution:

The rate of rice 1 is ₹90 per kg

So the CP of 40 kg of rice1 is

  • 40×90
  • ₹3600

The rate of rice2 is ₹150 per kg

So the CP of 40 kg of rice2 is

  • 40×150
  • ₹6000

So the total CP of the mixture of the rice is

  • 3600 + 6000
  • ₹9600

The CP price of the mixture per kg is

  • 9600/80
  • ₹120

Here we have to get the total profit of 20 %

so the selling price of the rice is given by:

  • SP = (\frac{100 + P}{100})CP
  • SP = (\frac{100 + 20}{100})120
  • SP = (\frac{120}{100})120
  • SP = 144

So the selling price of the mixture of the rice is ₹144
