Answer :

Given  : A shopkeeper purchased a sewing machine for Rs.1200 and sells it a discount of 10 % and making profit of 8 %  .

Cost price of sewing machine =  Rs . 1200

So,

Shopkeeper sell a sewing machine after making 8 % profit = 1200 + 8% of 1200 =  1200 + 1200 × 8100 = 1200 + 96 =  Rs . 1296

And

Selling price of sewing machine  =  x  , So

x -  10 % of x  =  1296

⇒x − 10 x100 =  1296⇒x − x10 =  1296⇒10x − x10 =  1296⇒9 x10 =  1296⇒x =  1296 ×109⇒x =  144 ×10⇒x =  1440
So,
Selling price of sewing machine  = Rs . 1440                                               ( Ans )
