Total number of eggs = 400

Find the total number of eggs left after 28 was rotten:

Total number of eggs = 400 - 28 = 372

Find the selling price:

372 eggs = 372 ÷ 12 = 31 dozens

1 dozen eggs = Rs 48

31 dozen eggs = 48 x 31 =  Rs 1488

Find the cost price:

Gain = 4%

Selling Price = 100 + 4 = 104%

104% = Rs 1488

100% = (1488 ÷ 104) x 100

100% =  Rs 1430.77

Answer: The cost price is Rs 1430.77
