A shopkeeper purchases 50 dozen eggs at Rs. 16 per dozen. Of these 40 eggs were found to be broken. At what price should he sell the remaining eggs in order to make a profit of 5%?​

Explanation:

Profit % = P = 5 %

Cost price ( CP ) = 50 * 16 = ₹ 800

Number of eggs bought = 50 * 12 = 600

Number of rotten eggs = 40

Number of good eggs = 600 - 40 = 560

CP = SP * 100 / (100 + P %)  

800 = SP * 100 /  (100 + 5)

800 = SP * 100/105

800 * 105 / 100 = SP

SP = ₹ 840

Selling price of 560 eggs to make  a profit of 6% is ₹ 840

Selling price of each egg = 840 / 560 = ₹ 1.5

Selling price of a dozen eggs = 1.5 * 12 = ₹ 18

So,  he should sell the remaining eggs at the rate of ₹ 18 per dozen or ₹ 1.5 per egg in order to make a profit of 5%.
