Given:

A shopkeeper selling watch for rupees 575 and make a profit of 15%

To find:

The cost price of the second watch

Solution:

Let the cost price of the first watch is 100 units

the profit on the same watch is 15%

So the profit on the watch will be 15 unit

then the selling price of the same watch will be 115 units

but, The Selling price of the first watch is Rs. 575

so,

  • 115 ----------- 575
  • 1    ----------- 5
  • 100 ----------- 500

So the cost price of the first watch is Rs. 500

We have given the second watch that is sold at 10% loss and on the overall transaction he had no loss no gain

So, the ratio of their CPs can be obtained by

15                -10

          0

10                  15          [ partition of CPs]

Ratio will be 2:3

Let the CP of the second watch Rs x

As per the condition;

500/x = 2/3

x = 500×3/2

x = 750

The second watch is of Rs 750

The cost price of the second watch is Rs 750
