Given :- A shopkeeper sells an article at the marked price of Rs 6000. The rate of GST on the article is 18%. If the sales are intra state and the shopkeeper pays GST of Rs 108 to the central government, find the amount inclusive of tax at which the shopkeeper purchased the article from the wholesaler ?

Solution :-

Let shopkeeper sells to wholesaler at Rs. x lower price.

According to the question,

→ Net Tax paid by dealer wholesaler is = Out put tax - Input Tax = Rs. 108

So,

→ 18% of 6000 - 18% of (6000 - x) = 108

→ {(18 * 6000)/100} - {18 * (6000 - x)} / 100 = 108

→ 18 * 6000 - 18 * 6000 + 18x = 10800

→ 18x = 10800

dividing both sides by 18,

→ x = Rs.600

Therefore,

→ selling price of wholesaler = 6000 - 600 = Rs.5400

Hence,

→ The amount (inclusive of GST) paid by wholesaler = 5400 + 18% of 5400 = 5400 + (18 * 5400)/100 = 5400 + 972 = Rs.6372 (Ans.)
