Question:-

A shopkeeper sells an article for Rs.1770 with

GST = 18%. A customer willing to buy this article, asks the shopkeeper to reduce the price of the article so that he pays only Rs.1888 including GST. If the shopkeeper agrees for this, how much reduction will the shopkeeper give?

Given:-

A shopkeeper sells an article for Rs.1770 with

GST = 18%. A customer willing to buy this article, asks the shopkeeper to reduce the price of the article so that he pays only Rs.1888 including GST.

To Find:-

How much reduction will the shopkeeper gives?

Solution:-

Let, the reduction given by the shopkeeper = ₹ x.

∴ Reduced price of the article = ₹ (1,770 – x)

  • clearly, the reduced price of the article + GST on it = ₹ 1,888.

=> (1,770 – x) + 18% of (1,770 – x) = 1,888

On solving, we get x = 170.

Answer:-

\sf \sf \red{ ∴Reduction \:  given \:  by \:  the \:  shopkeeper}  \\  \sf  \blue{= ₹170.}

Alternative Method:-

Let, the reduced price = ₹ x.

∴ Reduced price + GST on it = ₹ 1,888

∴ x + 18% of x = 1,888

=> x = 1,600

= ₹ 1,770 – ₹ 1,600 = ₹ 170.
