Answer: Hence, there is 3.5% profit in whole transaction.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Selling price of a fan = Rs. 1140

Let the cost of first fan be x

Let the cost of second fan be y

As we have given that on one he gains 14% so,

As we know the formula,

S.P.=\frac{100+Profit\%}{100}\times C.P.\\\\1140=\frac{100+14}{100}\times x\\\\1140=\frac{114}{100}\times x\\\\10\times 100=x\\ 1000=x

Profit=S.P.-C.P.\\\\Profit=1140-1000=140

Similarly,

on other fan he losses 5%, So,

S.P.=\frac{100-loss\%}{100}\times y\\\\1140=\frac{100-5}{100}\times y\\\\1140=\frac{95}{100}\times y\\\\\frac{1140\times 100}{95}=y\\\\1200=y

Loss=C.P.-S.P.\\\\Loss=1200-1140=60

Net profit is given by

140-60=80

Now, we'll calculate profit%,

Profit\%=\frac{Profit}{C.P.}\times 100\\\\Profit\%=\frac{80}{1140+1140}\times 100=\frac{80}{2280}\times 100\\\\Profit\%=3.5\%

Hence, there is 3.5% profit in whole transaction.
